Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. is the nation’s oldest and largest
non-profit children’s literacy organization. Its purpose is to help
young people discover the joy and acquire the habit of reading. RIF
supports literacy development by providing free books for children
to choose and keep, as well as encouraging them to read through motivational
activities.
1973 was the start of the RIF program in Warner Robins. It has been continued yearly since that time. Current members, Barbara Asbell, Jane Gramley and Eleanor Granum started the programĀ with a distribution of 830 book to 166 children the first year. Over the past 36 years, over AAUW 50 volunteers have given over 60,000 books to over 15,000 students.
The used book sale is the primary source of funds for the program.
